Mother's Day Crafts: Home Made Bath Salts

Looking for a great Mother’s Day gift? Short on Mother’s Day gift ideas? Why not make your Mother’s Day gifts just that much more special by actually making them this year.

Using an unusual looking jar can make these salts look great. Because salt tends to absorb any moisture that is in the air, try to do this project on a day with little humidity. For this project, you need:

  • Glass or metal mixing bowl
  • ¼ tsp glycerin
  • 2 cups Epsom salts; 1 cup sea, rock or coarse salt
  • Clean, dry jars with metal screw on-lids or cork stopper
  • Food coloring
  • Essential oils (i.e. lavender, peppermint), optional

1. Mix your salts together in a large bowl. When they are thoroughly blended, add a few drops of food coloring and mix well.

2. Next, add the glycerin and essential oils (if you are using them). Mix well.

3. Carefully pour or scoop the salts into your jar and seal them. You may want to decorate the jar. You can even create your own "spa" label; suggest using up to ½ cup of the salts per bath.
