Summer Activities for Kids: Backyard Pirates' Ship

What You'll Need

• blue tarp
• blue paint and paintbrushes
• large appliance box (such as refrigerator box)
• clothesline and sheet
• assorted props

Instructions

Spread out the tarp and set the box on it on its side, underneath the clothesline. Cut away the top of the box or open up the box. If cutting is required, parents should do this step; using a utility knife is a good option.

Have the kids paint waves on the bottom half of the boat. They can also paint on fish or windows or any other decoration. Once the paint has dried, clip a sheet sail to the line. Next, kids can assemble the props of their choice, such as stuffed animals.
