my friend is having a baby shower and we are inviting about 30 frieds and family, is it unethical to assign gifts from my guest?

yes. it's tacky. you should welcome with open arms whatever they give you.

Baby bashing during baby shower... sounds like a freaky headline to me.

Assign gifts? Isnt that a bit greedy and demanding? Gifts should be voluntary and should be heartily given. If you assign gifts the guests would think you're just throwing a party to get the gifts!

"assign gifts"? I thought gift giving is supposed to be voluntary not enforced. If I were assigned a gift I would be insulted. It would be better to have a baby shower registry for the gifts you like.
