what is a good way to take care of the umbilical cord to speed up the healing process?

emma_54 - December 29th, 2010 4:17 AM

i clean their cord with distilled water and ispropyl alcohol twice a day after their bath.

keep them clean and dry. this way there will be no bacteria and the cord will fall off faster.

the cord will usually fall off on its own when the navel is healed. but I clean it with isopropyl every after bath. just a small dollop on a cotton ball is good enough.

the doctor told us to clean it with warm water or alcohol. i think they fall off after around 2 weeks.

the doctor did not give us an antibiotic cream. instead he told us to clean it everyday and then to keep it dry. you should also avoid touching it.

the important thing to remember is to keep the cord dry and to clean it everyday. i also fold the baby's diaper (the belt area) so as not to irritate it.

the cord will fall off on its own in due time. as parents the only thing you can do is to keep it clean and dry. this way there wont be any nasty infections happening in the baby's cord.
