I am not a pet lover. I don't owe dogs or cats or any other kinds of pets. I don't hate animals but I just don't want them inside the house. My 4 year old daughter is begging for a puppy for her 5th birthday!!! Dilemma!!!

Hi Nicole. By now your daughter is a big girl at 4 yrs. old. It's normal for her to want pets. I know I did when I was at that age. If you already know she's not allergic to hair from cats or dogs (you should already know that), I think you can give in.

Has she been immunized yet? Complete vaccines and all that?

Children are more prone to allergies when it comes to a cat. That is what I have observed on my children and those of my brothers and sisters kids. That's why there are no cats at home. We have 2 dogs, a Golden Retriever and a Japanese Spitz.

That is right Valerie. Child has different reactions to allergies. Be careful with choosing the right pet.

bring your daughter to a pet shop and ask her to choose the pet. i'm sure they'll allow you to hold it. check if she's allergic or not.

How about pet hamsters?

Hamsters are cute and cuddly. They can be placed inside a cage. Won't leave hair on the sofa or carpet like cats do. A hamster does not bark. Feeding them should be cheap. Their droppings are not as smelly as cats or dogs, and its easier to clean afterwards.
