I know that infants would normally have very long sleep periods but what is the normal number of hours required for their sleep? My baby seems to be asleep MOST of the time. It's like he only wakes up so I can feed her and then she goes back to sleep. She's already 4 months and I'm just scared that she might be sleeping too much. She sleeps probably 18 hours per day....

It is usually unique for every kid. 16-18 hours is normal, but of course it is not continuous... it is also important that you wake your child when it is time for feeding. :)

NEWBORNS AND INFANTS WOULD REALLY NEED A RELATIVELY GOOD AMOUNT OF SLEEP. THEY NEED IT FOR PROPER DEVELOPMENT, SO DON'T BE ALARMED. AS THEY AGE, THEIR SLEEPING HOURS WOULD ALSO LESSEN.

babies this age usually sleep 10-12 hours at this age. this is because their brain still needs to develop. its quite normal for babies to sleep this long for the first 10-12 months of their life.
