I have received different opinions on how to respnd to a baby's cry. Some say I should just ignore it so he/she would know that his/her cry is useless. Some say I should wait for the baby'scry to subside before picking him/her up, so that the baby could feel that he/she is not neglected but "the cry" is not the main reason why I responded. Which is better?

A baby's cry is just one of the few ways that they are able to communicate to the world. Since they are not yet capable of "talking", they use expressions in relaying what they feel. It is important as a mother that you portray a "nurturing" attitude. That way, your child would know that you are responding positively to his/her needs.

I believe it is healthy to respond to your baby's cry in a gentle loving motherly way. I pick up my baby and try to pacify her with providing what it is that she needs. Mostly they cry if they are hungry, in pain or just not comfortable... It helps in building your trust and bond with the baby.
