My daughter is obsessed with beauty magazines and it's affecting her greatly. She's not eating properly at all and she always have excuses every time I try to convince her to eat. One time we got into a big fight when I decided to throw all her beauty magazines out, she got really upset with me... It's so hard to let her understand that I only want what's best for her.

society dictates what is beautiful. i dont have dauthers and i am not a mother so i dont understand how women judge what is beautiful.

as a parent however i am worried about your daughter's self-esteem? why judge beauty via a magazine? if you tell her that she is pretty as she is maybe this will boost her confidence. it also does not hurt to set good examples for her.

i can relate to you and in your daughter in a way... as a girl or atleast most girls would dream about having the perfect bod and skin... beauty magazines shows pretty skinny girls and we tend to think that those shoes, bags and clothes would only look good if we were skinny.. our perception of what is beautiful is somehow distorted.. try to highlight her strong assets not just the physical but her as a whole.. make her realize that less intake of food is not the ultimate beauty secret at all!
