I have always given my son compliments to make him feel good about himself, but no avail. He is TOO shy and i feel that he is so insecure about himself. He feels and thinks lowly of himself... I need to help him because i know it is going to affect his social life as well... What else can i do??

Give him tasks (that you think he can handle) and then give him credits for it... It is one way of making him feel he is worthy of something. Assign him an important task in the household perhaps so he can also get a sense of responsibility and the get the feeling that he is needed.

praise your child everytime he does something good. even a simple good job or a pat on the back will do wonders for your child. also stay away from the name calling. this labels your child and can damage his self esteem.

loosen the apron strings a bit. let them explore their boundaries. allow them to make mistakes since they will learn from this.
