i have given my 10 yr old a cellphone but i made a deal with him.. if he gives me bad results at school i'd get the phobe back... so far, he is doing good at school.. just set proper expectations...

how old is your son? does he need a cellphone? is he responsible enough to keep a phone? ask yourself these questions before buying him one.

Personally if the child is below 12, I dont see why they would need one.

just giving phone as a gift is a very bad idea. since its a lost opportunity for them to teach them the value of money, i work for a telecoms company and most of my callers are teenage that went beyond their limit.

If he's mature enough to handle the responsibility then go on. To keep costs down there are prepaid kits available.

No. Personally I am not going to get my kids cell phones until they are in highschool. What would they do with it? I never had a phone growing up and I did ok. Also kids are notorious for losing or breaking stuff like these and these are expensive!
