Hi!
My daughter has been having nightmares for 5 consecutive nights already. She would wake up in the middle of the night crying and I have a difficulty putting her back to sleep. I'm worried because it is already affecting her sleep pattern and thus it also affects her performance in school.

hi bella!
anything that can actually disrupt sleep can be considered as a sleep disorder. Nightmares are same with having an anxiety attack. Just observe your kid for another week or so if he still encounters the same problem. You might want to check as well if he is stressed out or anxious about something that could probably cause his nightmares.

You have just to be a little more patient. Providing comfort can help the child be at ease.

I've read it somewhere that sleep disorders have implications both for social-emotional adjustment and for school performance. This is the reason why parents really need to understand what sleep disorders are and it's effect to children.

at bella - Sleep disorders are generally diagnosed either by a pediatrician or a sleep specialist. If you are concerned about possible sleep problems, you may want to begin by discussing your concerns with your child’s physician.

If your child experiences night terrors, make sure he or she is comfortable but do not wake the child. In extreme cases, night terrors may require medical intervention.

My sister experienced night terrors before so she was always cranky coz she lacked sleep. and it really affected how she does in school.

nightmares are traumatic too, this is the case that is affects their sleep. if they have the same nightmares then they would be afraid of sleeping, a matter of explaining and just letting them feel that everything is allright.
