the items listed in my friend's baby shower register are too expensive for my wallet. is it OK to give her something that is not in the registry? is there some sort of rule that you have to get gifts from the registry?

yes why not, it's the thought that counts. during my wedding i received gifts not in my registry too. it does not matter to me coz it's a gift!

how about one of the gifts from the registry but at a more affordable store? I'm sure you can find cheaper versions of what she wants at another location!

a gift is a gift. for me a registry is just a guide anyway.

you can get her anything you want. it might or might not be in the registry.

yes it is OK for you to give her anything not in the registry. for me it is just a list of what they hope to receive. it's not a demand on their part.
